October 1943. Nazi troops begin the roundup of Rome’s Jews, an operation that took place quite literally ‘under the Pope’s windows’. Within the Vatican, Pope Pius XII and those around him confront a question: should the Church speak out, or remain silent?

The play follows a young fictional cardinal whose faith in the Pope is gradually tested over the course of one extraordinary day.
