GOOD LOOKERS

Minack Theatre · 2026

In summer 2026, I was selected for the Minack Theatre’s Stage Writing for Commission programme, run in partnership with The Writers’ Block in Cornwall.

Over a week, a small group of writers worked with dramaturg and playwright Jane Pugh, developing new work for the Minack’s young performers.

From residency to stage

Good Lookers began during those sessions. It is set on a beach, where a young girl persuades three teenagers to search for things that may or may not exist. What starts as a game becomes a short play about curiosity, playfulness and learning to look properly at the world around us. Early scenes were read by actors from the Minack Academy, before we went away to write and submit our short plays.

At the end of the residency, we were invited to submit our finished plays for consideration. Good Lookers was subsequently selected for performance at the Minack Theatre in October 2026.

Following its selection, I continued to work with Jane on the play, developing and refining the script towards performance.
